Can we talk about the perfection loop for a second?
You know the one I'm talking about. It's that voice in your head that says you can't start until everything is just right. You can't launch the thing until the website is flawless. You can't post the content until it's been edited seventeen times. You can't share your work until you're absolutely certain it won't be criticized.
And here's the kicker: that moment of "perfect" never actually arrives.
So you wait. And wait. And while you're waiting for perfect, you're missing out on progress.
The Trap We All Fall Into
I'll be honest with you—I've been there more times than I can count. I'm someone who thrives on structure and getting things right, so the perfection trap is basically custom-designed for people like me.
But here's what I've learned: perfectionism isn't about having high standards. It's about fear dressed up as excellence.
It's the fear of being judged. The fear of not being good enough. The fear that if we put something out there that isn't polished to a shine, people will see through us and realize we're just figuring it out as we go.
Spoiler alert: we're all figuring it out as we go.
What Progress Actually Looks Like
Progress isn't pretty. It's messy. It's inconsistent. It's putting something out into the world even when it feels half-baked because you know that done is better than perfect.
Progress is:
- Hitting publish on the blog post even though you could tweak it for another hour
- Showing up to the workout even if you can only do 20 minutes instead of 60
- Sending the email to the potential client even though your pitch isn't perfectly polished
- Starting the project before you have all the answers
Progress is choosing action over analysis paralysis.
And honestly, progress is way more valuable than perfection ever will be. Progress teaches you things. It gives you feedback. It moves you forward. Perfection just keeps you stuck in the same place, polishing something that doesn't need to be polished.
Permission to Be Imperfect
Here's what I want you to hear today: you have permission to be imperfect.
You have permission to start before you're ready. To share your work before it's flawless. To take the messy action instead of waiting for the perfect moment.
Because the truth is, the people who are out there doing the thing—building the business, creating the content, chasing the goal—they're not doing it perfectly. They're just doing it. And that's what sets them apart.
At Ladies Who Life, Jaclyn and I are living proof of this. We didn't wait until we had everything figured out to launch this community. We didn't wait until our content calendar was mapped out for six months or our brand was perfectly polished. We just started. And we're learning and growing as we go.
That's the whole point.
Your Turn
Think about one thing you've been putting off because it doesn't feel perfect yet. Think about one area where you can choose progress over perfection this week.
Maybe it's finally starting that project. Maybe it's sharing your work even though it feels vulnerable. Maybe it's just showing up and doing the thing, even if it's messy.
Whatever it is, I want to hear about it. Head over to Instagram and let us know: what are you proud of yourself for working towards today? It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be real.
Let's celebrate progress together.
